Faith With Works is Alive!

Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; as it is written, “He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor, His righteousness endures forever.” Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all, while they also, by prayer on your behalf, yearn for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Cor 9:6-15)

The greatest pleasure in planting a church is to see the ministry of the Gospel come to fruition in the life of each disciple. But today, I had the joy of seeing the Gospel fulfilled through the life of our church.

Almost a year has passed since Erin became a part of our church family. Erin is a dedicated follower of Jesus and the single mother of three beautiful kids. In the midst of her own need, Erin has sacrificed and served us many times over with her gift of music. Today we had one more opportunity to return the favor.
Two months ago, Erin’s car broke down and, as you can imagine, this represented a significant hardship to her. We do not have a mechanic in our church, and so several of us began looking for ways to pool our money and pay for the repairs. Erin was blessed by our efforts, but soon we all realized her car was beyond repair and no amount of money would help her out.
I could cite many examples of how folks did things to support Erin, but let me focus in on the work of Marion and Aramis who represent the heart of many in our church. When this wonderful couple heard of Erin’s need, they started to talk around their dinner table about how they could help. Aramis works for a local car dealership; Parkland Chevrolet and so they began to pray God would move the heart of the owner, who is not a Christian, to gift a car to Erin. Aramis had only been working at this dealership for 6 months, but he found Divine-favor and, after several weeks of persistence, the owner agreed to gift a car to Erin. Aramis put in countless hours of work and he finally found a car.
Today at the end of our Sunday Conversation, the church had the pleasure of presenting Erin with a reliable car that will serve the needs of her family for several years to come. As Aramis handed Erin the keys, I held back tears of joy. I was surprised at my emotional response, but could not help but be overwhelmed at witnessing this act of love.
In the end, no single person can take the credit for helping Erin because none of us had the ability or resources to make it happen on our own. It is our prayer that this tangible demonstration of love will serve as an example to our friends, neighbors and other churches of how God makes provision through the working of his Spirit in the power of His church. All who read, be encouraged and find a way; this very day, to be the hands and feet of Jesus!

If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” (James 2:15-18)

The blessings of God never cease to amaze!

This is what answered prayer looks like!

J.R. This is what I was trying to communicate in my blog. The church is the people and when we do acts of kindness personally we declare the glory of God. One member touched another and God’s glory is revealed.

I’m also asking God to bless the dealership for such wonderful compassion.

    Joe,

Thank you for this story! I’ve been challenged and encouraged lately to share more stories like this one – stories of people being changed and responding to the gospel by serving others. I’m glad to see that others are doing the same thing!
