In Celebration of their 10th Anniversary in 2008, Google temporarily made their oldest available index from 2001.  This blast from the past, enabled me to get some screen captures of a past life as a business owner and web designer.

Business Was My Gateway

First, most readers of my blog probably don’t know that for 10 years I ran a consulting business to help churches plan and build facilities.   The site featured my personal articles, a web-store where I sold my book and other resources, and listings of the best companies in Church Construction.  Here is a screen capture of version 1.0 of the design work for my website.

I can’t believe that in mid-1990’s I was getting a quarter of a million hits a month!

My first business site with custom graphics and HTML design @ ChurchConstruction.Com. I sold my company in the early 2000’s.

BTW, did you notice one of my early advertisers was “Handspring Visor“?  Wow, if that technology did get outdated fast!

Next, here is one of my design projects for a good man named Sam Harmon and his company.

This was the first website I ever designed for someone other than myself. I was really pleased with my design concept

My E-Book Before There Were E-Books

Oh, and I forgot totally about this next project until Google reminded me of it.  This screen capture is from an interactive website that was accessible only from a CD I designed in the late 1990’s.  The concept was actually really cool!  Here is how it worked.

  1. People would buy a copy of my book on CD, “A Comprehensive Guide to Church Construction”
  2. The CD contained printable resources AND…
  3. was an interactive tool that served as a secure gateway into my Plan2Buld website where churches, architects and builders could get the most recent information and resources.

I think it was a really cool idea that was way ahead of its time.

This was my non-internet design project featuring an interactive DVD to guide churches through the process of planning to build a facility.

Living 4 Christ

And most of all, I want to thank Google for giving me access to some of my old posts.  Way back in 1997, I was a blogger before there were blogs.  I designed each post using Photoshop and HTML then I had to manually uploaded each post on a separate page.  Now it is easy, but back then it was a bit harder.  Here is what my personal home page looked like in the mid-1990’s

This featured some of my earliest design work using Photoshop.

There it is, a trip down my old-school design history.  Ah, the memories…
