On this LIVE edition Tony Marino and Pastors Brian Whiteside, Michael Duncan, and Jeff Klick discuss “Discipleship Qualifications.” We team God’s Word with our latest book, “The Discipling Church.” Guest Panelists: Dr. Joe Miller and Jason Velotta.
The second half of our talk focused on Discipleship, but the first half of our talk was really about not losing hope by allowing feelings to lead us into depression. During that discussion, Michael brought up the passage from 1st Corinthians.
1 Corinthians 13:11–13 (ESV)
11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
These three; Faith, Hope, and Love, will endure in the Church, but right now they are MIA for many who are in the church. This really deserves its own post, but for now, here is the challenge I see facing Christians.
FAITH: Faith in God has been reduced to a faith in self. Too many believers have decided that they can pick and chose what and when to believe.
HOPE: Hope in eternity has been invested in the the temporary. This is why so many Christians are upset about the re-election of Barack Obama. They have put their hope in government and this hope will always fail!!
LOVE: Love, in the church, has been reduced to physical passion. The rallying cry of the culture is, “God has no limits on any two people that love each other.” But, this kind of love puts Mankind at the center instead of God who alone can define love.
We, all of God’s kids, need to get back to the basics and learn what it means to really abide in God’s Faith, Hope and Love. Only then, can we really begin to heal from our dispair.
