The biggest challenge is the intellectualizing of the church where “belief” is simply an intellectual exercise and not a life changing adventure.

  • Jack Hairston

IMHO, the greatest challenge to overcome is the loss of Christian character. All it takes is the threat of social awkwardness to stop a Christian from witnessing to others.

The biggest challenge is the disconnected belief that following Jesus is a part-time job with low commitment levels.

I think the biggest obstacle is that we teach grace opposed to works and it robs the disciple of hope. The reason we do that is for compassion to the guy who feels he’s too far to be forgiven, but Yeshua (Jesus) taught a way to live. When we go to someone who God gave a destiny to do great things, to have dominion, to live in His Image, to be a King or a Queen, a Priest, a Hero, and we tell them “Don’t worry, Jesus did it all”; it’s like a sugar high. It tastes great for a while, but we long to DO things. And that should not be a surprise because God teaches us that through obediance he changes us, he draws near to us, he inhabits, he completes his love in us. And it is in doing that, that we love God. When we stress grace apart from works, we are telling them not to worry about the very things God has created to build our relationship. Without that relationship there is no difference between the unbeliever and the believer. What does the disciple have to offer, if it is not change?

The biggest challenge to Discipleship is that we are chasing ghosts. Outside the Gospels, the word “Discipleship” is never even used so it is not really the goal for the Christian church today.

We fail to obey God’s Word about the Great Comission.
