The news is ablaze with the rising firestorm of student protests across the country who, after seeing the success of students at the University of Missouri force the resignation of both the President and Chancellor, hope to share in that success by forcing “change” at their schools too. The latest news is reported by Fox in their article titled, “Chaos on campus: Students protest, call for heads to roll at schools around country.”
As many as 20 other campuses around the country were planning marches Thursday, including St. John’s, Syracuse and Columbia universities in New York, Harvard and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Disaffected students at Loyola University in Chicago and the University of Michigan were preparing a list of demands and threatening action, according to The Seattle Times. Black alumni at Georgia Tech were crafting a letter to that university’s president, urging a continued commitment to diversity.
A popular professor at Missouri said he resigned Wednesday after students lashed out at him for pledging to give a scheduled exam amid spiraling protests, but the university said Thursday it rejected his resignation. Students at Ithaca College in New York, Yale University and Vanderbilt University in Tennessee were calling to ax administrators over responses to perceived incidents of racism, and even more campuses were pledging solidarity with the burgeoning social justice movement.
As an outside observer, I can’t help but think these protests are a result of what these very same Universities have taught their students for decades. The two University of Missouri Professors inciting violence against Tim Tai and another reporter in this video provides is just one example of how the Universities have sowed the seed of violent protest. Listen as Professor Melissa Click called in “the muscle” to physically attack a reporter.
Despite having resigned from leadership, the former President of U of M should be proud of his success in teaching students to look for the Microaggressions that exposed his hidden racism.
Prof. Carol M. Swain should take joy in being called an insensitive racist by her students who demand she take sensitivity training. Sure, the charges are hurtful to her ego as she writes on her FB page.
Only an idiot would think a 61-year-old black woman who has spent much of her life in academia would benefit from sensitivity training.
…but, after the sting of the accusation goes away, I am sure Dr. Swain will take joy in knowing her students have been trained well and these attacks are really the fruit of her awesome teaching.
So while these student protests at our Universities may seem chaotic, they are really a success story of the quality education they provide. The fact that these same Presidents, Provosts, and Professors are losing their jobs, is just a hard reality of their ultimate success.
Congratulations Prof. Dale Brigham, your resignation proves you are a successful University President!
I am not a fan of what American politics has become. Both our politicians and our media lack integrity.
While there are some good people in politics, I am disgusted at the corruption in both the Republican & Democrat establishments.
The media has stopped reporting news, works to create it to fit their agenda and stifle voices of dissent. I don’t trust them to be honest.
The latest affirmation of how arrogant our media has become was demonstrated in last night’s so-called “debate” hosted by the extreme left “news” organization called CNBC. The CNBC moderators lacked professionalism, exuded arrogance, and revealed their obvious partisan disdain for the Republican candidates. After a series of foolish questions that failed to advance any meaningful debate, Sen. Ted Cruz responded with both truth and clarity.
CNBC knows this content is embarrassing and that is why they tried to block me from putting it on YouTube. I filed a dispute under Title 17 U.S.C. section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Law which allows citizens to reproduce, distribute or exhibit portions of copyrighted motion pictures or televised programming under certain circumstances without authorization of the copyright holder, but CNBC refused my claim in their effort to silence my free speech.
I applaud Ted Cruz for his words. Watching the CNBC “moderators” ask these juvenile questions was embarrassing.
There are candidates on this stage I would never vote for, but if there are any worth my vote I need to know where they stand on key issues. But even to the ones I dislike, this is not how any candidate should be treated regardless of party affiliation. These debates are meant for people to watch and get informed about the positions of each candidate… not a vehicle for liberal reporters to attack.
We, the American people, should demand better.
I still plan to vote my conscience and make an informed decision in this next Presidential election in support of our Constitutional Republic, but I have little faith in the system as it exists today.
On June 9th, 2015 the world woke up to the picture of Bruce Jenner, now “Caitlyn” Jenner, on the front cover of Vanity Fair magazine. Who is Bruce Jenner? Bruce Jenner was the gold medal winner, and world record breaker, in the decathlon competition in the 1976 Summer Olympics. After some time out of the spotlight he returned to television, not as an athlete, but as a reality TV star father on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” Then on April 24, 2015, in an exclusive Interview with 20/20, Bruce Jenner identified himself as “transgender.” Now, due to a surgical procedure and some hormone therapy Bruce Jenner, the Olympic athlete, looks like a woman.
On June 11, 2015, about two weeks after this groundbreaking story broke about Bruce Jenner we hear of another person, a woman, by the name of Rachel Dolezal. Who is Rachel Dolezal?Rachel Dolezal is a White American woman who served as the NAACP President for the Spokane Washington Chapter, but claimed she was Black (or African-American).Her story came to light as the city of Spokane investigated Dolezal for a possible ethics violation related to false claims about her ethnicity on a job application. Jeff Humphrey, a reporter for KXLY news, broke this story when he interviewed Rachel Dolezal who claimed she, and her family, had been a victim of numerous hate crimes.When Rachel Dozal was asked by the reporter if her father really was a African-American man her response was, “That’s a very…I mean…I don’t…I don’t know what you’re implying.”A couple days after Dolezal’s story broke, her parents Larry and Ruthanne Dolezal, two White-Americans, shocked the world using her birth certificate to prove they were Rachel Dolezal’s parents. Recently Rachel Dolezal was interviewed by The Today Show in which she claimed to identify with Jenner and said, she was “transracial,” then “biracial,” and then at last “Black.” She said,
“I definitely am not white. Nothing about being white describes who I am. I’m more black than I am white. That’s the accurate answer from my truth.”
You may think there is no connection or association with these two stories.You may believe in terms of their topics they are light years apart. One is talking about a man becoming a woman by surgical means, and the other is talking about a woman who was faking an ethnicity for the sake of personal benefit.Despite the contrast, there is one overarching fact connecting these two events that must not be ignored: The rejection of absolute, objective truth.
For Bruce Jenner (I refuse to acknowledge him as Caitlyn) this is a denial of the clear and objective truth of how he was created.It does not matter if he has felt all of his life he was a woman trapped in a man’s body, or if he has all the external body parts that make up the female anatomy.The plain fact is: He is not a she, but he is a he with some modified body parts resembling a she. For example, Jenner lacks such things as ovaries, fallopian tubes, and a uterus which are important internal organs for a woman’s body.In addition, because of these reproductive organs, a woman, naturally, is able to create and house a human baby naturally, something Bruce Jenner will never be able to do.He could never give birth to his own baby with his own ovum, breastfeed, or experience a menstrual cycle.This is something Bruce Jenner’s DNA did not grant him the abilities to do. He lacks the very things that make women objectively unique and special and never will have them.
On the same level, Rachel Dolezal will never be an African-American no matter what she does.Similar to Bruce Jenner, she would have to modify herself artificially to continue her African-American ruse. It does not matter how many times she kinks or dreadlocks her hair to make it look more ethnic, or spray tan herself to make it appear like she has darker skin, or even study the Africana culture to identify herself according to the ethnicity she feels intimate with.It does not change the absolute, objective reality that she is White.
Then we have society at large which has not only accepted this denial of objective reality, but celebrates it.In July 2015 Bruce Jenner is expected to receive the Arthur Ashe ESPY award not for his contribution to sports, but for his “courage” to come out as a transgendered person. Maura Mandt ESPN executive producer says
“She has shown the courage to embrace a truth that had been hidden for years, and to embark on a journey that may not only give comfort to those facing similar circumstances, but can also help to educate people on the challenges that the transgender community faces.”
If she wants to be black, she can be black,” said Goldberg, adding, “Look, just like people say, ‘I feel like a man, I feel like a woman, I feel like this.’ She wants to be a black woman, fine. Everything that comes with that she is prepared for. Okay.” Raven-Symone noted that “everybody has some type of African blood inside them,” and asked rhetorically, “And what makes a black person, just your skin?”
Sacred Scripture discusses this issue with those who embrace the lie of relative truth when Paul, writing to the believers in Rome says
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. (Romans 1:18-23, NASB)
Both Bruce Jenner, and Rachel Dolezal, believe it or not, have suppressed the truth in their unrighteousness and wickedness. They have chosen to neglect God’s divine attributes that are clearly seen and understood by what has been made.God made Bruce Jenner a male, this truth is clearly seen. However Bruce Jenner has decided, due to how he feels, to reject this plain clear truth he is indeed a male and distort this clarity, even though he had second thoughts about his surgery and even some regrets concerning his procedure.In fact, he has admitted that he has not removed his male genitalia. Rachel Dolezal has also rejected objective truth by denying that she was born White. She has not only deceived others, but herself by ignoring and rejecting what has been clearly seen based on the nature of her DNA.By contrast, when they, and we, base our reality on what we feel rather than what is, how do we determine what is right or wrong? By how strong we feel something? By how many people agree with us? This particular type of worldview is ripe for all kinds of confusion and trouble.
As believers in Christ, we hold to the objective and absolute truth of God’s Word, and so we must continue to hold the objective light of this Sacred Word. Due to the denial and rejection of absolute truth found in Sacred Scripture, we, like Paul, must acknowledge the world is indeed under the wrath of God…
But we must also proclaim the external, objective, and absolute reality of repentance and the forgiveness of sins.
Yes, even now God will forgive Bruce Jenner for changing who God created him to be: a man.God bled and died for this sin and Bruce Jenner can receive a full and complete pardon for his denial of reality.Even Rachel Dolezal for deceiving people, and herself, stating she was Black when she was not. Even she can be forgiven for this lie. No amount of justifying herself in front tons of cameras, or having a change of heart and apologizing for lying to all the people who have heard this will quiet the judgment of God. Only her trust in the Gospel of Christ Jesus will accomplish this reality.
We are no different from Bruce Jenner or Rachel Dolezal. All of us, at one point or another has denied objective reality. Whether we have told a “little white lie” or have denied who we are to obtain fulfillment and happiness all of us have fallen short of God’s glory. When we focus on objective truth, moreover the objective reality of the Word of God, we will no longer see one another as “transexual,” “transracial,” or “trans-anything.”We will see ourselves for who we truly are and what we truly need…
We are all sinners in need of a transformation by our God who offers the forgiveness of sins in His Name.
Like many Americans, I awoke to read the tragic headline of evil hitting Charleston, SC as a gunman killed 9 Christians during a prayer meeting. The suspect, Dylann Storm Roof, 21, has been captured and is yet to speak out about his motive. Is Roof a deplorable racist, hateful of blacks? Is a an angry atheist, hateful of Christians? Or maybe both?
While we do not yet know the motivation for his act of evil, my prayers go out to the families of those killed in cold-blood. I pray they can find peace in the abiding grace of Jesus Christ—Lord and Savior of those 9 beautiful souls.
We live in a dangerous time when Christians are blinded by fear unable to discern the difference between the Gospel and politics. Throughout the decades of the 80’s and 90’s, the Christian faith was reduced to a political movement in close association with the Republican party. This movement became known to many as the “Moral Majority.” I have written before sharing my concern over religious leaders like Pat Robertson who promoted a Gospel of Democracy. I have voiced opposition to right-leaning organizations like the American Family Association who believe freedom comes from political action.
Many young Christians have recognized the failure of the Moral Majority and gone in search of a better way. But instead of returning to Jesus Christ, they are beginning a new era of religious-politics where the vacuum of spiritual meaning is filled with a Messianic Minority. The face of this new left-leaning movement is Barack Obama. Obama’s followers use strong messiah-like imagery and even cite the Scripture to give credence to this new brand of political salvation. The artwork supporting Obama is compelling, as Obama paints himself as the incarnation of hope for America and the world.
Children sing to Obama and trust that he will bring unity to the nations of our world and healing to our planet.
WE’RE GONNA CHANGE THE WORLD Music and lyrics by Lily Campbell
We’re gonna spread happiness
We’re gonna spread freedom
Obama’s gonna change it
Obama’s gonna lead ‘em
We’re gonna change it
And rearrange it
We’re gonna change the world.
SING FOR CHANGE Music and lyrics by Kathy Sawada
Now’s the moment, lift each voice to sing
Sing with all your heart!
For our children, for our families,
Nations all joined as one.
Sing for joy and sing abundant peace,
Courage, justice, hope!
Sing together, hold each precious hand,
Lifting each other up;
Sing for vision, sing for unity,
Lifting our hearts to Sing!
YES WE CAN Music and lyrics by Kathy Sawada
Yes we can
Lift each other up
In peace, in love, in hope
A much more refined video titled, “An American Prayer” features Hollywood stars as the new “unseen church” praying to Obama that he will remember them when he reaches the top of the political mountain.
I am afraid that the Christian-sponsored support for Obama does not look or sound much different than the videos above. As the influence of the Moral Majority passes into history, a new “spiritual” leadership has come to the fore. Popular pastors like Brian McLaren lead the charge. They claim to be beyond partisan politics, and proof of their “new” way is evidenced, they say, by their endorsement of Obama as the man who can lead us beyond politics into hope. You can read McLaren’s endorsement, or you can read this bit of satire from the “Jesus Manifesto.”
A vote for Barack Obama is a vote for Jesus…not that I agree with everything he stands for. I mean, I am an independent sort of thinker. I am firmly convinced that God is neither a republican or a democrat. But Barack Obama transcends such distinctions. He flies high over such petty concerns on shimmering gossamer wings. Golden light emanates from his perfect form. His smiling eyes looking down upon me with a look that pierces my soul! I get lost in his smile, and long for one of his chiselled arms to hold me close while the other smites a damning blow to poverty and oppression.
Don’t get me wrong. As a Christian, my ultimate hope is in Jesus alone. I don’t trust in politicians or the State to accomplish what the church is called to do–that is to bring transformation and true freedom.
But Barack is a Christian. And I believe that Jesus is pouring his Spirit upon Barack Obama for a time such as this. Barack brings hope in the midst of darkness. He himself is our peace, who has made Republicans and Democrats one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility. He is like a father to the fatherless and a defender of widows!
Don’t get me wrong. There are things I don’t like about Barack. For example…he isn’t bold enough in speaking what is on his mind–his illuminated, brilliant mind. It is almost bordering on sinfulness for him not to share his thoughts, for his voice is a gift from heaven. His booming baritone bellows soft mysteries that only angels can truly comprehend. When he speaks, possibilities open. New futures are made possible. Women weep for joy and children laugh with gladness. Wicked men mourn their transgressions and hardened men melt like ice on a hot spring day. Every one of his delicately formed words is its own tender miracle. Why should he hold back a treasure that was meant as a gift to the whole world?
As you can see, I have thought this through. I have weighed the pros and cons and made the choice to vote for Obama–warts and all (of course, I’m being metaphorical, since I am certain no blemish or corruption has ever touched his gorgeous frame).
I encourage you to vote for Obama too. I’m not saying that voting for McCain would be a sin. Nor am I saying that it would be a horrible, disgusting sin for you to not vote at all. But I am saying that to vote for Obama is to vote for Jesus. And to NOT vote for Obama would mean that you don’t love Jesus, the poor, or your own mother. To NOT vote for Jesus would be to render Jesus’ life and message meaningless. That’s all I’m saying.
This parody is a profound insight into the new politics of faith exhibited in websites like “Clergy for Obama” and the “Matthew 25 Network”
Each website is filled with content that uses Scripture to justify the choice of Obama as God’s candidate with the agenda that best reflects God’s plan for the world. The problem is that these Christians have simply exchanged one political movement (the Moral Majority) for a new one (the Messianic Minority).
They have replaced one “chosen” politician (George Bush) with a new one (Barack Obama).
The new political-Christian brand has set aside one earthly mission (Family Values), for another earthly mission (Social Justice)
They have set aside one political cause (Abortion) for the newest political cuase (Global Warming).
They have replaced one spiritual-leader (Jerry Fallwel) for another of the same kind (Brian McLaren)
Both political movements branded with the name of “biblical” fail to bring spiritual satisfaction because both movements are a corruption of the Gospel.
Both political movements exchange reliance upon the power of the Spirit with the power of the politician.
Both political movements exchange investment in the church as the agent of change with investment in government.
Both movements exchange hope in the Kingdom of Christ with hope in American Democracy.
I am convinced that our political “freedoms” are instead a bondage that leads us to reject Christ’s methods of change… only to turn and accept the world’s methods of exhorting power over people. I can see that this marriage of the church to the state by acceptance of its methods… only produces a nominal Christian “religion” where we can all live comfortable while we overcome evil with a vote. We can walk away feeling like we have done someone a favor with our vote. Like we have made a difference by playing in to the system of suppressing evil through law and violence. As if we have been called to confront evil in this manner.
Let me leave you with this thought.
During his busy life as a minister, Edward Mote wrote more than 150 hymn texts. In 1836 he published a collection titled Hymns of Praise which included “The Solid Rock”. I fear that far too many Christians have lost site of this faith in the Solid Rock of Jesus Christ and put their hope in a political figure.
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
For my Christians brothers and sisters, I have one question for you. There is only one man who is manifest hope. Do you know his name?
