The Earth Problem

The Earth Problem

Is it possible for the earth to be billions of years old? There are problems within the Solar Nebula theory that suggest the earth could not be billions of years old.

The simple presence of water is one significant problem for secular scientists. Over 70% of Earth’s surface is covered by water. But Solar Nebula theory demands that because of high temperatures, volatile elements such as water could not condense within the inner solar system. Lighter materials, like H2O, could not have condensed this close to the sun and the Earth should have formed with no water at all.

Early theories tried to explain the presence of water through comets (and more recently asteroids) crashing on the earth after it formed, but recent analyses by spacecraft of the deuterium content of water in comets shows that the small amounts of water on these bodies do not match the chemical composition of the water on earth. One example is the 2014 ESA Rosetta mission to Comet 67P which found three times the deuterium concentration in its water compared with water on earth.

A second scientific challenge to the Solar Nebula model is Earth’s magnetic field. The overall strength of the earth’s magnetic field decays by half every 1,400 years. At most, given the current field strength, the earth’s magnetic field could only be about 20,000 years old. So how then do naturalists account for a magnetic field that has lasted billions of years? They postulate the existence of a dynamo. In theory, the fluid motion of Earth’s supposed dynamo is driven by thermal convection which produces the field; a magnetic field which is sustained despite the ongoing conversion of electrical energy into heat due to the electrical resistance of molten metal. The inability to reproduce magnetic fields through these “dynamos” have failed to demonstrate the viability of this theory.

These two basic problems present a significant challenge that has yet to be solved.

The heavens declare...

A great place to start your own study of astronomy and cosmology is this series by Spike Psarris who was previously an engineer in the United States’ military space program. He entered that program as an atheist and an evolutionist. He left it as a creationist and a Christian. His website, and these 3 videos, help explose the bankruptcy of the evolutionary model, especially in astronomy.

Stick to Theology: Skip the Science

Stick to Theology: Skip the Science

I was recently at a family camp where one of the speakers told a riveting story of riding in a plane that almost crashed. During the incident, he was able to remain calm, but the passenger next to him was scared beyond belief. His point was that regardless of their individual faith in the pilot to land the plain, they both landed safely.

To make his ultimate point, he talked about the two laws; the “law of gravity” and the “law of aerodynamics.” I cringed. Why? Because while our speaker knew a lot about God, he did not know anything about science… there is no such thing as a “law of aerodynamics”. Aerodynamics is an applied science (a sub-field of fluid mechanics) that tries to maximize lift, weight, thrust and drag explained, in part, as engineers study things like Bernoulli’s principle, the Coanda effect, Euler equations, and Newton’s third law of motion.

So where did this “law of aerodynamics” come from?

Do a quick Google search for “law of aerodynamics” and you will find all the top hits are Christian blogs… ugh! And people wonder why atheists are so critical of Christians? Bloggers and pastors just keep repeating their ignorance.

Pastor, teachers, bloggers… please be careful not to speak outside your field of knowledge (or at least do the study to make sure you are not misleading people). When you make factual errors about something so simple, it can make unbelievers who have expertise in that field of knowledge doubt your trustworthiness. Many genuine seekers feel that if you are wrong about basic science, there is no way to trust you when it comes to spiritual matters.

The moral of the story is, when in doubt, stick to theology and skip the science.

The Venus Problem

The Venus Problem

Solar Nebula models tell us that Venus, in close proximity to the Earth, should have formed around the same time and be composed of similar materials, however these two planets are inexplicably different:

  • despite its large magnetosphere, Venus has no magnetic field
  • no global plate tectonics
  • an atmosphere 90 times more massive than Earth’s
  • an atmospheric composition that includes gasses (e.g. argon) that should not be present in such quantity
  • rotates clockwise in retrograde rotation once every 243 Earth days
  • Venus does not show the signs of age predicted by Solar Nebular theory. Evolutionary theorists speculate, without solid evidence, that Venus appears young and it’s surface shows no record of billions of years of erosion or weathering because some internal planetary process appears to have created significant amounts of basaltic lava that folded the surface of the planet in the recent past.

These very simple bulleted summaries demonstrate the problem with Nebular theory that cannot be explained using current models and argue against the billions of years demanded by these theories.
