Breathless

Head full of folly
Mind full of wishes
Alive in my skin but quiet in my soul
Heart paused and waiting between beats
… breathless

Time running onward
Time running out
Weight of my history settling into past
Waiting under shadows of the might’ve-beens
… breathless

Life moving forward …
… Life standing still
breath moving in …
… breath moving out
Watching and waiting as she strolls to another
… breathless …

my heart beating
my heart breathless
my heart clenching
my heart breathless
… I wait … breathless

I Wait…

I wait …

I wait with bated breath …
for a wish to rub the sleep from its eyes
and for a dream to take its first gasp of life

I wait with faith in my heart and hope in my soul
for the melting of the wintry cold
and the promise of spring sunshine

I wait with impatience …
and sometimes with patience …
for the passing of the long midnight
and the slow magenta of the dawn

And though hope is sometimes crushed …
and dreams sometimes falter …

I wait …
because sometimes it’s all that I can do

Meditations In The Dark

Meditations in the dark,
Contemplations of the abyss
I walk the edge of nothing
Peering on the other side
One foot over, one foot on,
Should I take the step?
Sweet oblivion calls to me
Darkness answers my grief
I glance over my shoulder …
and delicately back away
Wondering “what if?”
… “what if?”
